Wheelhouse Records’ Singer/Songwriter Is “Making The Case For A New Mainstay In Country Music” (Billboard) With His Just-Released Debut Album Backslider
Wheelhouse Records singer/songwriter Elvie Shane is racking up another career milestone with the news that his recent No. 1 hit single “My Boy” has officially been certified GOLD by the RIAA, with more than 500,000 units of the song being consumed since its release. The lump-in-your-throat anthem to step-fatherhood just topped the charts at Country radio and continues to gain traction. Shane was surprised with the news of his GOLD certification during an interview with CMT Hot 20 Countdown, which fans can tune in to this Saturday and Sunday (11/6, 11/7) at 8/7am CT on CMT.
“Music isn’t just the noise we make,” shared Shane. “It is the people that consume it. This song isn’t just a song. It is a chapter out of my personal journey. A sincerest ‘Thank You’ to my listeners for giving my story a GOLD record.”
“My Boy” is taken from Shane’s just-released debut full length album Backslider, available now here. Shane co-wrote the set that embodies the crunchy hooks of Classic Rock, the nostalgia of Country music as well as the emotional electricity of Gospel and R&B. Critics have already been quick to praise the body of work:
“Shane’s debut album, smartly keeps the singer-songwriter’s church-bred vocal tone front and center, lifting up tracks like ‘I Will Run’ and ‘Sundress’ and making the case for a new mainstay in Country music.” – Billboard
“A sonic treasure that weaves between blessings and contradictions amongst 14 honest-to-goodness tracks that display a messy honesty that couldn’t be more appealing.” – People
“Shane’s debut album, Backslider, is filled with honesty, great musicianship and tells his story the way he wanted to tell it.” – Music Row
“An artist who is ready-made for stardom, if this album, Backslider, is any indication.” – Roughstock
“Backslider, the new album from Elvie Shane, could be the year’s best debut.” Lyric Magazine
A native of small-town Kentucky, early touchstones like Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle and John Fogerty joined Wheelhouse Records’ Elvie Shane’s Gospel roots to form the bedrock of his taste – along with R&B classics like The Temptations and modern superstars like Eminem. And after a fateful Baptist revival came through town, he joined a band as a front man full of wild-eyed charisma. Shane initially captured attention with a viral social media moment with “My Boy,” that has since become his signature smash and debut No. 1 single. Shane’s debut EP, County Roads was released earlier this year. His picture-based lyrics and knack for storytelling lead to his signing with UTA and he has since opened for Jason Aldean, Toby Keith, Brothers Osborne Brett Young and Lady A, to name a few. Shane also just wrapped a stint on the road opening for Brooks & Dunn on their 2021 Reboot Tour.
