Winner of NBC’s reality competition TV series Songland, Madeline Merlo today releases her emotionally charged new song “Same Car.” Co-written by Merlo with prolific No. 1 songwriters Sara Haze, Jason Saenz, Josh Osborne and producer Zach Crowell (Dustin Lynch, Sam Hunt), the award-winning songwriter of Lady A’s no. 1 hit “Champagne Night” flaunts sharp lyrics with her dynamic, powerhouse vocals. Thinking back to a painful memory, the song remembers what was and dials in on the sorrow and angst felt post-breakup. Listen now HERE.
“‘Same Car’ is a song that I have been excited to release since the day I wrote it,” says Merlo. “It’s a vulnerable and raw story about getting your heart broken in the same place you fell in love. As a young person – a car is often the setting for the range of emotions you experience as you go through a relationship with someone. This song explores that, and the production gives it a cinematic backdrop that, I hope, will take the audience on that journey with me.”
Having “already proven her songwriting chops” (Billboard), Merlo has “long made a career by telling big emotional stories in the span of 3 minute or so songs” (American Songwriter). Similar to her critically acclaimed label-debut EP, Slide, that scored her praise from Billboard, E! News, PopCulture, Music Row and more, Merlo continues her build her niche as a songwriter and artist, as she brings to life powerful female stories, from budding romances to growing up to the lessons learned in-between. “…Ready to make her name and talent known in the American country music landscape” (Country Swag), the “rising country star’s” (People) electric new song “Same Car” is out now.
