Stoney Creek Records' Hot New Duo Thompson Square Debut Album In Stores Today, February 8
“Are You Gonna Kiss Me,” Breaks Into Top 15
Nashville, TN (February 8, 2011)–Thompson Square is the musical territory staked out by the husband-and-wife duo of Keifer and Shawna Thompson, an exciting and unpredictable area where country meets rock, rough meets smooth and one vagabond heart finds a harmonious common ground with another. Today, February 8, country fans can discover first hand that sweet destination on the 12 tracks found on Thompson Square's self-titled debut album– available in stores and online everywhere.
Fans began truly getting to know their way around Thompson Square with the release of the infectious radio smash “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” a fitting introduction to the Thompson Square’s natural chemistry and spirit of buoyant romance. The single has recently jumped to #14 on Mediabase and #15 on Billboard. Digital sales have exploded for the single, reaching the prestigious #1 spot on iTunes Country Album chart, #3 on iTunes Country Singles chart with over 386,000 total single sales to date.
Writing 9 out of the 12 tracks on their debut, produced by New Voice Entertainment production team, (Kurt Allison, David Fanning, Tully Kennedy and Rich Redmond), the debut seamlessly combines the twosome’s wide-ranging influences into a loose, lively and identifiable sound all their own. The Washington Post's Bill Friskics-Warren reviewed the album, saying, “the duo's songwriting is forceful and direct.” USA Today's Brian Mansfield stated Thompson Square is “genuinely affectionate on the best parts of a debut that puts a little sexy rock swagger into its country sound.” Roughtstock.com's Matt Bjorke gives the album four stars, recognizing the album has “twelve solid, tight love songs that never try too hard.”
Thompson Square explores the endless dynamics of couplehood throughout the debut album, as in the opening rush of the ebullient “I Got You” and the muscular, mischievous “Getaway Car.” But they also explore the darker side of relationships, as on simmering ballads like the conciliatory “If It Takes All Night” and the fragile “Glass.” It’s just one way in which Thompson Square subverts the stereotype of the married couple singing sticky-sweet songs of devotion to one another.
“There are songs that will make you laugh, make you dance, make you cry,” Keifer says. “We tried to touch upon the whole gamut of emotions.”
In support of their debut album, Thompson Square recently appeared on CMT's “CMT Insider” and “CMT Top 20 Countdown,” where they celebrated their music video hitting the #7 spot on the popular countdown. They have been featured in the current issue of Country Weekly and will appear on an upcoming episode on GAC's “On The Streets” and “Headline Country.”
